A City In Darkness

In Progress

The Raven

Resigned to the endless void, Raven wishes for only one thing - death. He cannot simply wait for it nor can he take it himself, it must be given. Unfortunately, everyone who possessed the knowledge of how has been dead for more than a thousand years - even their bones have become dust.

The Scorpion

Outlier, loser, nobility. Antere has been called these things. Decades ago, he learned to quiet the voices around him and quiet the voice inside, resigning himself to a lifetime of dusty tomes and the recycling of stale knowledge.

Or rather, he would have. He would have chosen a life of stagnant peace; but betrayal, murder, and hatred has stolen that life from him. In order to return to that distant dream, he needs to take it.

Oddly enough, the idea for this story came from song, two songs to be specific. “The Devil” and “Where is Your God Now” - Rok Nardin. Since then, the idea has twisted and morphed, what I once considered to be foundational pieces were ripped out, and new ideas were injected.

I wanted to try my hand at Fantasy. Drawn to the ideas of strict magic systems, I was interested in building a system that was more than just a tool of conflict. I wanted to see a magic system that shapes government, economies, and challenges dogma.

I originally set out to write this book as a series. My storyboard, plotting, and outline for books 2 and 3 carried that assumption. As I get closer to completing the first draft, I’m unsure if I want to complete the trilogy just yet.

It will be comprehensive enough to stand on its own and feel satisfying, and likely it will stay as a standalone for some time.
